WhatsApp adds messaging from Web

SAN FRANCISCO: The popular mobile messaging application WhatsApp, acquired by Facebook last year for nearly $22 billion, unveiled a new service Wednesday for sending messages from a Web browser.

WhatsApp, which claims some 500 million users, said its Web service will be a “mirror” and would require an Internet-connected phone to work.
“Our Web client is simply an extension of your phone: the Web browser mirrors conversations and messages from your mobile device — this means all of your messages still live on your phone,” WhatsApp said in a blog post.

The new messaging service currently only works with Google’s Chrome browser and will not be available to iPhone users “due to Apple platform limitations,” according to WhatsApp.
Facebook in October completed its buy of WhatsApp in a stock-and-cash deal.
The acquisition highlighted the stunning growth of mobile messaging but also prompted analyst questions on the price paid by Facebook and future plans for the service- AFP

WhatSim: The card that lets you access WhatsApp anywhere without a data connection

WhatsApp is the most popular mode of communication these days especially in Europe and India. The popularity of the app has now led an Italian company, Zeromobile, to launch a new WhatsApp specific SIM called WhatSim.  WhatSim allows you to use WhatsApp messaging service even when you are on roaming without the need of data connection or a Wi-Fi.
According to Manuel Zanella , CEO of Zeromobile and the inventor of the card,  “WhatsApp is the future of mobile communications. Its only “limit” is the data connection especially when you are traveling because the roaming charges are expensive and you can’t always find Wi-Fi everywhere and it is not always free. As someone who appreciates and uses WhatsApp, I tried to figure out how to get around this problem. That’s why WhatSim is an extraordinary opportunity for WhatsApp.”
Priced at EUR 10 (approximately $11/ Rs. 714.00), users will get a SIM card (standard worldwide shipping is EUR 5/$5.60/Rs. 350 approximately) unlimited text messaging for a year. While sending and receiving text messages, location updates, and contacts via WhatsApp is free, users will have to buy credits for sharing multimedia messages such as photos, videos, and voice messages. How much you get for your credits depends on where you are travelling.
Zeromobile says that as of now WhatSim is compatible with 400 operators across the world and works in about 150 countries. It easily connects to a provider network and in case you change your position, it automatically searches for a new provider. In case a provider with better signal is available, then it automatically connects by itself without the user even noticing it, explains the company.
The company says that WhatSim has neither has fixed costs nor monthly payments and it never expires, so you as a traveller can be in contact with your near and dear ones 24 x 7
However do remember that any multimedia messages which contains Photos, Videos, Audio Clips requires you to recharge with WhatSim credits and the usage of these credits will depend on the country/zone you happen to be in.
For example, India has been designated as  Zone 3 and users travelling to India will need 150 credits for photo, 600 credits for sharing video messages, 30 credits for voice messages.
Each recharge of €5 gets users 1000 credits and recharges can go up to a maximum of €50 (10,000 credits).
Zanella also plans to launch a special version of €5 /$.5.60 WhatSim cards inspired by Pope Francis and designed for those countries of the world that the UN calls the Global South.

Features of Microsoft’s New Spartan Web Browser

Yesterday, along with the announcement of many Windows 10 features like windows cortana, Microsoft also announced a new web browser code-named “Project Spartan,” which is said to replace Internet Explorer in Windows 10.

One of the main changes in this brand new browser compared to Internet Explorer is the Microsoft’s Chakra JavaScript engine and Trident rendering engine. Microsoft claiming it’s a new rendering engine, although previous reports have said it’s actually a clean fork of Trident, Internet Explorer’s old rendering engine. More details should come out later about whether this rendering engine has been rewritten from scratch, or whether it still uses some parts from Trident.

WhatsApp To Temporary Ban Users Using unofficial version

Seems like this is just a bad day for the Whastsapp users. If you are still unaware about it then do know that Whatsapp is going to ban temporarily the Whatsapp plus users. Whatsapp plus which is basically a third party app that resembles in many features compared to whatsapp having a pretty good design and different themes. As they were still running it on the Whastapp plus servers its easy for them to figure it out who’s using whatsapp plus. Using whatsapp plus is against the terms and conditions of the Whatsapp so it deicded to temporarily ban the users using Whatsapp plus.

Interestingly the first victims of the ban were Indians. This process just started exactly at 12 AM IST on 21st January which means it just started around two hours ago. Even the act of unistalling the Whatsapp and installing the Whatsapp din’t lift the ban reports the banned users. The ban period is about 24 hours which is not bad compared to a life time ban.
whatsapp banned
The above one is the screenshot where the user from India who faced the ban issue for using Whstapp plus enquiring about the issue in one of the local groups. Seems like Whatsapp is going to take severe action on the third party apps which leads the users distracted from them. Anyways if the application itself is updated from time to time there will be none going to use the third party apps. Hope the messaging gaint will come with an accurate solution to these sort of issues.

Facebook introduces HACK, a programming Language for Future

Facebook introduces HACK, a programming Language for Future

Do you know the ‘Codebase’ that is capable of running the largest social networking website Facebook? It is ‘Hack‘.

The codebase is ‘Hack’ but it has nothing related to hacking. Hack is a new programming language designed by Facebook that will lets programmers build complex websites and other software quickly and most important without Flaws.

“We can say with complete assurance that this has been as battle-tested as it can possibly be”, said Bryan O’Sullivan, the Facebook engineer behind the language, in a statement.

According to the experts, Hack is a new version of PHP, Mark started building this when he started Facebook.

Hack too runs on the Hip Hop Virtual Machine but it lets coders use both dynamic typing and static typing.
Facebook Explanation about Hack:
“Our principal addition is static typing. We have developed a system to annotate function signatures and class members with type information; our type checking algorithm (the type checker) infers the rest. Type checking is incremental, such that even in the same file, some code can be converted to Hack while the rest remains PHP. Technically speaking, Hack is a gradually typed language: dynamically typed code interoperates seamlessly with statically typed code.”
“The Hack adds additional features beyond static type checking, including collections, lambda expressions, and run time enforcement of return and additional parameter types….We are delighted to open-source both Hack and the tools that we used to convert our codebase hacklang.org.”

 hacklang.org

“You edit a file and you reload a web page and you immediately get the feedback. You get both safety and speed“, O’Sullivan added.

Xbox One Will Soon Get the Ability to Take Screenshots

If you're the sort who likes sharing your gaming moments without having to resort to videos or live-streams that demand a really good Internet connection, chances are you're used to taking screenshots of your PC or PlayStation 4 games, or both.

Which is why it's all the more perplexing that the Xbox One launched with a video capturing feature only, forsaking any form of taking screenshots. Unless of course you count poorly taken pictures of your TV screen while gaming or images via a capture card that usually costs upwards of Rs. 10,000. It's something Microsoft is painfully aware of.

In a new video, the head of Microsoft's Xbox division, Phil Spencer states that the ability to take screenshots will come soon.

"Screenshots are coming early this year. I know it's been a question for quite awhile. We delivered themes. I think that a natural add-on to themes are screenshots. Giving people more ability to share their great gaming moments on the platform whether it's just as a screenshot as their background or through many of the different social networks that we allow people to share their content through is a long term commitment that we have," said Spencer.

While there is no set date for the feature, Spencer stated that there will be big news for the console as well as the company's efforts on PC and mobile that could be revealed at Microsoft's Windows 10 event on January 21.

British Police Arrest Man Over Christmas Xbox, Playstation Hacks

British police said on Friday they had arrested a man in northwest England following the 2014 cyber-attacks on Sony PlayStation and Microsoft Xbox systems.

Both systems suffered long outages over Christmas after a major distributed denial of service (DDOS) attack. A H@cking group calling itself Lizard Squad, which had attacked the two networks earlier last year, claimed responsibility.

"Officers ... have arrested a man in Southport, Merseyside this morning as part of an investigation into 'swatting' and computer H@cking offences," Merseyside police said in a statement.

The officers had worked closely with the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in the operation, it added.

No further details of the arrest were immediately available.

Swatting is a term used to describe criminal activity by an individual or group who provide false information to law enforcement agencies in the United States, suggesting that a threat exists at a particular location so that police respond with tactical units

Twitter Hackers Announce 'World War III

Hackers took over Twitter accounts of the New York Post and United Press International on Friday, writing bogus messages, including about hostilities breaking out between the United States and China.

One tweet posted under the UPI account quoted Pope Francis as saying, "World War III has begun."
Another message delivered on the Post account said the USS George Washington, an aircraft carrier, was "engaged in active combat" against Chinese warships in the South China Sea.
The tweets were subsequently deleted.

A tweet from the News Corp-owned Post later noted that "Our Twitter account was briefly hacked and we are investigating."

The fake tweets were not just about war. One posted on UPI said "Just in: Bank of America CEO calls for calm: Savings accounts will not be affected by federal reserve decision."

UPI later acknowledged it was hacked, and said in a dispatch that "six fake headlines were posted in about 10 minutes."

On Twitter, UPI noted that "World War III has not started, thankfully."

Several media organizations have had their Twitter feeds hacked over the past two years including Agence France-Presse and the BBC. Also this week the Twitter feed for the Pentagon's Central Command was taken over by a group supporting the Islamic State jihadists.

A Pentagon official said the tweet about hostilities with China was "not true."

Firefox 35 Launched With Improved Sharing, Marketplace Beta, and More

firefox_hello_screenshot_blog.jpg
Mozilla on Tuesday launched the 35th iteration of its Firefox Web browser for Android, Mac, Linux and Windows platforms, soon after the launch of Firefox 34 last month. The new Firefox browser features several new functionalities including Firefox Hello conversations, mp4 file playback on Mac and more.

The desktop version of Firefox 35 now brings a more simplified Firefox Hello call process, reducing the number of steps required to make a call. After clicking on the Hello button in the menu bar or customisation panel, users can now click on the 'Start a conversation' button to invite someone for a video call. Users can navigate away to other webpages while waiting for the second party to join the conversation, and will be alerted by audio alert when this happens. Users can now also save and label conversations so that they can quickly made the same call again in the future. Details can be found on Mozilla's official blog post.

Firefox 35 for desktop operating systems now also features a Firefox Marketplace. The service, which is under Beta mode for desktops, was already available in Firefox OS and Firefox for Android. The company is currently asking users to test Web apps on Windows, Linux and Mac systems.

The browser also comes with a new sharing button, with the ability to directly share the webpage the user is on to accounts on popular social networks such as Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, and Google+. To add the functionality, users will need to visit the Share Activation page, and select the social networks they desire.

All of the aforementioned features (Firefox Hello, Firefox Marketplace, and sharing integration) are now available in the Firefox toolbar or in Customize Mode.

Other new features include built-in support for H264 (mp4) on Mac OS X Snow Leopard (10.6) and newer OS versions, improved responsiveness, improved high quality image resizing performance, improved search UI, HTTP Public Key Pinning Extension, and others. The complete changelog for desktop versions can be seen on the dedicated Firefox Release Notes website.

As for the Android users, one of the biggest additions made in the Firefox 35 is the inclusion of a download manager to keep track of contents downloaded by users. The download manager is nothing new for Android users as other rival third-party browser like UCBrowser already feature it.

The Bing search in Firefox 35 for Android browser now uses HTTPS for secure search. Other notable additions made are geolocation services that now make use of Wi-Fi and cellular signals, inclusion of search dialogue in network error pages, improved responsiveness, and the relocation of synced tabs from the tabs tray to a home panel. Also, select devices will now feature a new function letting users swipe up from the search widget to view search activity. The complete changelog can be viewed on the dedicated Firefox Release Notes website for Mobiles.

Flexible implant brings hopes for paralyzed humans

A year ago, specialists at the Ecole polytechnique federale de Lausanne, Switzerland, effectively exhibited a framework that permitted totally incapacitated rats to walk once more. Utilizing an arrangement of electrical and substance incitement, the rats – whose spinal cords had been totally separated – had the capacity by and by move their rear appendages.

The innovation is presently one stage closer to clinical human trials, with an adaptable embed particularly intended to coordinate with the spine of the person to be treated, minimizing the danger of dismissal and further harm. The insert, called e-Dura, is intended to be embedded specifically onto the cerebrum or spinal rope, underneath the dura mater, the layer that encases the mind and spinal string. Its mechanical properties – adaptable and stretchy – are very nearly indistinguishable to those of the living tissue walling it in, tremendously decreasing the danger of aggravation, contact and scraped area.

This is in immediate complexity to “surface” inserts. These are unbending, which causes frictional aggravation on the encompassing tissues when embedded long haul. The group at EPFL has tried the insert in rats and has discovered that, considerably following two months, there was no tissue harm or dismissal – what’s more, obviously, to permitting the rats to walk. This has showed that the insert is both fit for performing its capacity and good with long haul implantation.

“Our e-Dura insert can stay for a drawn out stretch of time on the spinal string or the cortex, definitely in light of the fact that it has the same mechanical properties as the dura mater itself,” said study co-creator and EPFL Bertarelli Chair in Neuroprosthetic Technology Stéphanie Lacour. “This opens up new helpful conceivable outcomes for patients experiencing neurological injury or issue, especially people who have gotten to be incapacitated after spinal line damage.”

The adaptable silicon insert is secured in split gold conduction tracks that extend with the silicon, while the anodes, another composite made of silicon and platinum microbeads, can be pulled in any bearing. These conduction tracks and cathodes pass on electrical present to the spinal string, much as the mind does. In the mean time, a fluidic microchannel in the insert conveys neurotransmitting medications to vivify the nerve cells underneath the harmed tissue.

While this works in accordance to evade the harmed site on the spine, permitting the patient – hypothetically – to utilize their appendages, it can likewise be utilized to screen electrical motivations from the cerebrum continuously, permitting the analysts to precisely gage the patient’s plan to move before the sign is deciphered into movement. The human trials may begin as right on time as June of this current year, at an unique office called the called the Gait Platform, housed in the University Hospital of Lausanne, Switzerland

Five Women Who Changed Modern Technology and Science

Five women who changed modern technology
Women are thought generally to have the biggest impact on the families they may raise. However a woman’s influence often times spreads far, and without much recognition. Women who have contributed to modern technology, and the applications of their original invention have had a resounding effect throughout the world and a shout out to them follows.

When it comes to modern technology, it would be almost unbearable for most people to part with their cellphone. Many daily activities take place on it, from texting someone to depositing a check into a bank account. Who would have thought that a war-time invention intended to thwart an enemy’s attempt at deciphering messages, would have such diverse purposes today? Spread Spectrum Communication Technology was co-invented by actress Hedy Lamarr during World War 2. It was originally designed to alter the frequency of a certain broadcast signal at non conforming intervals, in order to send messages without running the risk of it being deciphered by the enemy. Today it enables people to talk to each other across vast distances without the use of cables, wires or interruptions.

Ada Byron, a writer and gifted mathematician was the first woman to devise an algorithm that could be processed a by a machine. The computer. Suffice to say based on her notes the algorithm she invented would have been accurately processed on the first general machine computer. She is thus considered the world’s first computer programmer.

A tip of the hat to Polish born Marie Curie for her discovery of the elements polonium and radium. At the time these two elements were discovered, the only other one known to be radioactive was Uranium. She helped develop portable X-Ray machines and even though her tireless work with radioactive materials contributed to her untimely death, it paved the way for the leaps and bounds made in the medical field.

The research of Stephanie Kwolek and her work with long molecule chains at minimal temperatures was the foundation for the development of a solution, that led to the production of Kevlar. A major component in bulletproof vests used by law enforcement and military personnel, Kevlar (which is five times as strong as steel) has undoubtedly saved hundreds if not thousands of lives thus far. Bravo Ms. Kwolek!

When we get into our car we can sometimes take for granted the windshield wipers which come in so handy when it’s pouring with rain. It would be impossible to drive in a downpour without them. In 1903, Mary Anderson noted the need for a device that could reduce the blurring effect of rain on a car windshield. Her device was met with skepticism at first, but thirteen years later it was just another customary car component.
Before it was implemented, drivers would stick their heads out of the car window when it was raining, so they could see where they were going!

While women often take a step out of the limelight when it comes to being recognized for things, it doesn’t mean that their contribution to the modern society in which we live today is insignificant, just that the original inventor is little known to most people

What Is a DDoS attack?

DDoS Attack
Today, every information we shares on the internet, are being saved somewhere in server. It is very important to keep servers alive to access those information. Some information can be share to anyone but some of them are very important for us and we can’t let anyone know. Hackers always try to get private information to do their dirty work.

But, Hacking is not just about stealing the information. When hackers do not get success in stealing , they try to down the whole server. In this case, we may lose all the information on the server if we don’t have backup or a proper defense.

Now a days, we hear about attacks on gaming networks , news websites, bank websites etc. And when i write about those attacks i mention one term that is ‘DDoS’. Many readers may already know about ‘DDoS’ attacks but many of them are still not aware and they always ask me : What is DDoS ?

So in this article, i  am going to explain everything you need to know about DDoS attacks. If you will have any question, you can ask in comment section.

Distributed denial of service (DDos) attack refers to the attempt to make online service unavailable through overwhelming it with traffic from numerous sources. DDoS attack targets a wide range of important resources including news websites, banks, and many more. They pose a challenge to people’s attempts to access or publish important information.A decade ago, DDOS was only a basic attack that trying to overwhelm connection with traffic with the aim of taking a certain web property offline. When leading web experts began fighting DDoS attack in the year 2000, the flood attacks ranged at 400 Mbps but as we speak they exceed 100 Gbps.

The attackers build a network of infected computers called botnet and spread the malicious software through websites, emails and social media. The machines are capable of being controlled remotely once infected without the knowledge of owners. These machines are then used like the army in launching an attack against the target. Some botnet are as strong as millions of machines. The floods are generated in numerous ways including sending more connection requests that exceeds what a server can handle. They can also be generated by having the computers send to the victim huge volume of random data with the intention of using up the target’s bandwidth. Some DDOS attacks are so huge that they can max out the whole country’s international cable capacity.

Specialized online marketers exist who buy and sell individual DDoS attacks or botnet. By using these marketplaces, anyone can pay some fee in order to silence websites that they disagree with or to bring to complete halt online operations of a particular organization. A week-long DDoS attack for instance that is capable of bringing a small firm offline could cost as little as $200.

Beyond the democratization of DDoS attacks are the advanced techniques and targets. Today DDoS involves a series of attacks targeting multiple devices that consist of the organization’s security infrastructure as opposed to targeting connection bandwidth only. They include various applications and firewall or IPS devices that organizations rely on such as DNS, SMTP, VOIP, HTTPS and HTTP. The latest version of DDOS attack is the common multi-vector attack that combines flood, state exhaustion and application attacks against the infrastructure devices in a sustained single attack. These attacks have gained popularity due to their effectiveness and the fact that they are hard to defend against.

Today’s new realities of DDOS attack require new approaches to defense. Network experts have been in the forefront in looking for ways to combat DDOS attack for some years now. The best defensive mechanism against the modern DDOS attack is the layered approach combining cloud based protection and on-premise. With this type of protection, you are guaranteed of 100% security for your organization against the entire spectrum of DDOS attacks. A digital attack map is also ideal for protection against a DDOS attack because it displays global DDOS activities on any particular day. It displays the attacks as dotted lines that are scaled to size and stored in line with their source and the destination countries of attack traffic when they are known.
