Ebola Update 9-year-old Nigerian girl tests negative in India

The unidentified girl was admitted at the Ebola isolation unit of the Ernakulam General Hospital in Kerala after arriving at the arrived at the Cochin International Airport with her parents on Monday, February 2.

A 9-year-old Nigerian girl who was quarantined in India after showing symptoms of Ebola has tested negative for the disease.

A sample of her blood was sent to the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) in New Delhi where it was found to be negative for Ebola.

"The girl did not have any immediate ailments. She came along with her mother for the latter’s treatment in a private hospital. The girl had some problems. Hence, they decided that she would also be consulted here. That’s why they took the girl along with her mother,” Amar Fettle, the state nodal officer for Ebola said.

The child and her father had accompanied her mother to India for an orthopaedic procedure.

Nigeria was one of the countries affected by the disease before it was declared Ebola-free on October 20, 2014.

According to police a three-year-old boy has shot and injured his heavily pregnant mother and his father after reaching into his mother's purse for her iPod and discovering a loaded handgun.

 The toddler was sitting in a motel room in Albuquerque, New Mexico, with his mother,Monique Villescas, father, Justin Reynolds, and two-year-old sister on Saturday, January 31 when the toddler shot his parents.

According to reports, he was searching for his mum’s iPod in her purse when he drew out a loaded handgun instead.

Seconds later, he fired one shot which struck his father’s right buttock before going through to strike his father’s eight month- pregnant girlfriend in the arm.

Police arrived after the scene shortly after 2pm after Mr Reynolds called 911. They found the parents suffering from injuries, while a 9mm handgun was located on the floor of the motel room.

The pair was rushed to hospital with gunshot wounds.

Mr Reynolds has since been released. Miss Villescas's condition remains unknown as police said the expectant mother appeared to have been 'seriously' injured in the shooting.

Albuquerque Police Department officer Simon Drobik told a local newspaper that police will likely recommend that the parents are charged with felony criminal negligence over the incident.

“The child did the damage, but it was because of the negligence of the adults that the child was able to do this. If you are going to be a gun owner, you need to lock it up and keep it safe,” he said.

The Ekiti State chapter of the National Association of Nigerian Traditional Medicine Practitioners has thrown their support behind President Goodluck Jonathan in the upcoming election in February.

Speaking to the press in the state capital, Ado Ektit,  the State Chairman of NANTMP, Chief Jacob Orisamika described Jonathan as a humble person who can be trusted with power.

“We are supporting President Jonathan because we have consulted the oracle and it revealed that he is the best for the position. It was revealed that Nigerians will benefit more under him than any other candidates. Aside this, we have to show our support to Governor Ayodele Fayose who has been relating with Ekiti people closely. I believe that whatever the Governor supports must be supported by all Ekiti indigenes because Fayose is a man of the people,” he said.

At its first meeting of the year held in Ado Ekiti on Friday, January 30, over 4,000 members across the 16 Local Government Areas of the State converged to offer prayers for the state and the country.

The association also appealed to clerics to stop prophesying doom for the country, which it said could further ignite tension and cause chaos in the system.

Daria engaged in a heated argument with her parents after she was caught watching pornography online.

According to police, Daria immediately jumped to her death from her 14th floor from the building she stays with her parents.  

“After the death of the adolescent her parents looked through her texts and found several messages from the girl’s friends. The content was of quite an obscene nature,” a police source toldLifeNews.

 “There is an ongoing investigation. We aren't excluding the possibility of bringing up charges on inciting a suicide,” the police source added.

Busted Fake custom officer, drug smugglers nabbed by NDLEA

A drug smuggler faking as a custom officer was arrested by men of the NDLEA who busted a drug smugglers' hideout.

A suspected drug baron, Chidubem Aguezeala who paraded himself as a custom officer has been arrested by men of theNational Drug Law Enforcement Agency.

Aguezeala was nabbed after officials of the NDLEA raided a hotel allegedly used as a hideout by suspected drug barons in Lagos State.

Chidubem Aguezeala and another suspect Stanley Odidiazorwere using the hotel as a base to traffic hard drugs to China.

Aguezeala was claiming to be a serving customs officer at the Tin Can port but investigation revealed that his claimed service number from the customs command was fake.  

The NDLEA raided the hotel after they got a tip from another suspected drug smuggler, Emmanuel Obi, who was arrested by the NDLEA attached to the Murtula Muhammed International Airport.

Emmanuel Obi who was arrested alongside two other suspects-Henry Ezeocha and Isaac Tochukwu- had about 1.2 kilogrammes of heroin in his possession while he was nabbed.

Henry and Isaac also wanted to smuggle 34.6 kg of cannabis and heroin to China.

Chidubem Aguezeala and Stanley Odidiazor were said to have planned to sponsor Obi’s trip to China.

Emmanuel Obi according to a Punch report revealed that he was promised $4,000 to smuggle heroin to China.

“I was given 100 wraps of heroin by Stanley Odidiazor to swallow. I was able to swallow 68 wraps because it was my first time. They also promised to pay me $4,000, but unfortunately the drug was detected,” Emmanuel said.

Troubled mom tries to kill 8-yr-old son so she could be with him in heaven

A mother who is mentally troubled tried to kill her son so that she can be with him in heaven.

 troubled 33-year-old mother has been arrested on attempted murder charges after she tried to kill her son because she wanted him to get to heaven so that she would join him later, the WorldWide Weird News has reported.

The Japanese police say Aki Amano, had choked the 8-year-old boy until he fell unconscious at her home while her husband, Toshio Amano, was at home.

It was the 54-year-old father who discovered the still unconscious boy and called emergency services to report that his son was dying, 2 hours after the attack.

The child was rushed to a hospital and remains in an intensive care unit.

Hospital staff saw bruises and red marks on the boy's neck, indicating that someone had choked him, and called the police.

The boy’s mother was arrested at the hospital. During questioning, the mother told police that she cannot raise her son any longer and wanted to go to heaven with him.

The boy's grandmother said that her daughter had been receiving psychiatric treatment at a mental institution.

Oppositions have been alleging that Muhammadu Buhari do not possess a secondary school certificate and is thus not qualified to contest the February 14 presidential election.

Zahra Buhari has however come to the defense of her dad, stating that her dad wouldn't have been able to run some posts in the military if he was illiterate.

“About 53yrs ago he acquired this certificate. During his military years he held posts that couldn't possibly be run by an illiterate. Mind you, these were posts he managed very well. He ran for office 3 times, this is the forth time and now his certificate matters,” Zahri reveals on Twitter.

“The ruling party should accept the fact that they have failed Nigeria as a whole and we can't give them anymore chances. Misplaced priorities. Security should come first not #GMB s certificate. Unfair Treatment 54 die waiting for pension

It has been disclosed that about 54 retirees of Akwa Ibom State have died while waiting for their pensions.

54 retired members of staff of Local Government workers in Akwa Ibom State are reported to have died while waiting for their retirement benefits to be paid by the state Government.

This was disclosed by the chairman, Board of Trustees, Association for the Welfare of Retired Local Government Staff, Emmanuel Usoro.

Addressing newsmen in Uyo last week, Emmanuel Usoro blamed the state government for the plight of retirees in the state. Usoro alleged that the pension arrears of employees who retired from 2009-2014, had not been paid due to inadequate allocation to the pension board.

He blamed the death on the failure of the state government to remit its own share of 2.5 per cent available to Local Government Pension Board.

“More that 54 of our members have died while waiting for their benefits; others are suffering and may die if immediate help does not reach to them. The poor funding of the Local Government Pension Board has resulted in the inability of the board to pay the backlogs of pension arrears for 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014,” he said.

Negligence Nigerian couple abandon twin children in US

When police got to the house, they discovered that the 9-year-old twins have been on their own for four months with no edible food.

A Nigerian couple was questioned after it was revealed that they abandoned their 9-year-old twins in their apartment in United States during a trip back home.

Jerusalem and Gladys Monday, left the boy twins mostly to themselves in their New Hampshire apartment for four months and took their other three children with them to Nigeria.

Police started looking into the case in November when the boys' school notified the State Division of Children, Youth and Families that the twins had been living on their own for months.

The kids were getting themselves up and on the bus, then eating breakfast and lunch at school. The boys were taken into protective custody and then placed into foster care.

Police authorities say the couple left the twins in the care of an uncle who also abandoned them.  The uncle 25-year-old Giobari Atura promised the kids that he would be checking on them regularly to drop food but when police came to the house in November 2014, they found no edible food in the refrigerator and only ramen noodles in a cabinet.

Giobari Atura, 25, was hit with a one count charge of endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor. He was freed on $500 bail.

The Nigerian couple left for Nigeria in July and was scheduled to return in August but told police that they were delayed by illness and passport problems.

Assistant Hillsborough County Attorney Michael Valentine said the parents returned to United States shortly after they learned the boys were being left alone.

They had instructed Giobari Atura who is the younger brother of Jeremiah to stay in the apartment to help take care of the boys. They said Giobari always assured them that all was well when they called him from Nigeria.

Michael Valentine said the parents won't be charged and have been reunited with their children.

The young boy was crushed to death by a trailer in Doyin Bus Stop, Orile, Lagos.

A young boy around the age of four to seven was crushed to death this afternoon, Friday, January 23 in Orile, Lagos.

According to eye witness accounts, the boy was knocked and crushed by the trailer while trying to cross the road all by himself.

The unfortunate incident happened at the Doyin Bus Stop Orile. The trailer crushed the young kid on the head which left the components of his skull and brain all splattered on the road. The gruesome sight has left onlookers shocked.

This comes just a after the Mile 2 office of the Nigeria Customs Service was destroyed after another trailer rammed into the building. LASTMA officials were allegedly trying to gain control of the truck when it went off track. barely a week after another trailer rammed into the custom office of Mile 2.

A woman in Taraba State attacked her sister with hot water after they both had a disagreement.

A woman in Magami area of Jalingo on Friday, January 23, pour hot water on her sister after an argument ensued.

The woman who is simply known as Iyawo attacked her younger sister, Ramatu, after they both had a disagreement.

Ramatu suffered first degree burns from the attack which were not life threatening.

The cause of their disagreements was however not revealed.

Heartless Guardian Woman arrested for assaulting 15-year-old

Mrs. Ugochukwu Ebere, the guardian of a 15-year-old girl who was allegedly assaulted, has been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command.

A woman who is allegedly responsible for the battering of a 15-year-old girl, who stays with her, has been arrested by men of the Lagos State Police Command.

A Good Samaritan had tipped Punch about the plight of the 15-year-old girl, Oluebube Amadi, in the hands of her guardian. The girl had alleged that she was flogged and had pepper sprinkled on the scars left by the flogging on Sunday, January 11. Oluebube Amadi told the Good Samaritan, known as Rukayat that she was whipped for sending one of her guardian’s daughters to bring her soap to do the dishes.

When the newspaper got in touch with the woman, Mrs. Ugochukwu Ebere, she justified the brutal act saying that the girl was in the habit of masturbating and stealing.

The Lagos State Office of the Public Defender and Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation along with some policemen stormed the rented home of Mrs. Ugochukwu at Mohammed Akinje Street in the Ejigbo area of Lagos to arrest her.

The arrest was also said to have been orchestrated by the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire who ordered the arrest after reading about the plight of the girl. Popular human rights lawyer, Femi Falana also mediated in the matter.

According to Punch, the deputy governor of Lagos State had ordered the agency and WAPA to trail the guardian after reports about the plight of the 15-year-old hit the news. Femi Falana had also waded into the matter, telling Punch that his chambers would petition the police and ensure that the girl got justice.

Spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, DSP Kenneth Nwosu, has revealed that woman who was arrested is pregnant.

“Both the girl and the woman are with us under protective custody. The woman is pregnant. We are not detaining them. We are ready to work with the OPD as soon as it formally writes us to investigate the matter,” DSP Kenneth Nwosu told Punch.

Cold Hearted Nurse allegedly poisons 21 patients, killing 3

A hospital nurse in Manchester, United Kingdom has been charged with murder after it was revealed that he killed three patients and poisoned 18 others by contaminating saline bags and ampoules with insulin.

49-year-old Victorino Chua was also said to have deliberately altered the dosages on prescription charts while working as a staff nurse at Stepping Hill Hospital in Stockport.

The court learnt that 21 patients suffered as a result of his wicked act with three of them, 44-year-old Tracey Arden, 71-year-old Arnold Lancaster and 83-year-old Derek Weaver eventually dying.

Victorino Chua is a Filipino who first came to the UK in 2002 and had worked at Stepping Hill since 2009. He pleaded not guilty to 36 charges in all, including the three alleged murders, one count of grievous bodily harm with intent, 23 counts of attempted grievous bodily harm, eight counts of attempting to cause a poison to be administered and one count of administering a poison. The alleged offences were carried out between June 2011 and January 2012.

The prosecutor, Peter Wright QC said a “pattern” began to emerge which led to the identification of the killer after a massive police investigation.

"The pieces of the forensic jigsaw began to emerge. The person responsible for each of these matters became increasingly clear. It was, we say, Victorino Chua. As the investigation intensified, the common denominator, the defendant, was shown in sharper and sharper relief. Motive for this course of conduct, whomsoever is responsible, is difficult to determine with precision. Only the person responsible could ever know why they would embark on such conduct," Wright told the jury.

The trial continues.

Illegitimate 24-year-old man claims to be GEJ's son

 A social media report is going viral of the appearance of an illegitimate son of President Goodluck Jonathan.

 

In the past few days, the photo of this young man, Ibime Belema-Jonathan, has been viral on the social media with him claiming to be President Goodluck Jonathan's illegitimate son.

According to the reports, the 24-year-old guy believes he is one of the president's sons born outside wedlock and the photo that has been passed around speaks of a striking resemblance with the Nigerian leader and with the explanation that follows, one may not need to look too far to see that there may be some truth in it.

Though the President's spokesperson, Dr Rueben Abati has come out to state that the allegation is false, many think there could be a truth in the claim of the young man.

This is how it a Twitter user, @Abiyamo, put it:

"According to Belema-Jonathan, his mother was a receptionist in a Port Harcourt hotel (which shall remain undisclosed) when she met Goodluck nearly 25 years ago. Their relationship was made private because of the risks it posed to Goodluck's then fledgling political career.

He has decided to disclose this information after recently being informed by his mother, who had just passed away. It is his desire for his father to assume and fulfill his fatherly duties after a lifetime of absence."

Nigeria's First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan is not a woman who hides behind the scene when her husband, President Goodluck Jonathan, is running for an elective position as she makes sure she is in the forefront, mobilizing other women to vote for him.

She goes to every campaign venue with her husband and has her own day on the podium.

In the 2011 presidential election, she was famous with her bastardization of the PDP slogan, 'Umbrella' which she nicknamed 'Umblerra'.

She was also in Anambra State for the PDP campaign rally on Saturday, 17th January, 2015, and also gave a heart warming speech but a particular writer who took special notice of her speech, Stanley Azuakola, took to his Twitter handle to claim she actually equated the party to God on earth.

Double Tragedy Couple murdered in their home a month after wedding

The couple was strangled to death by intruders who made away with their electronic devices. They were married for just less than a month.

A newlywed South African couple, Wamukelwa Memela and Wendy Campbell, has been killed at their home in Branston just about a month after wedding.

Wamukelwa Memela and Wendy Campbell who got married last December were on Thursday, January 15 strangled to death by intruders who made away with only electronic devices.

According to revelations from police investigations, the late Wamukelwa seemed to have argued with the intruders, who then hit him with a garden tool and then dragged him to his bedroom where they tied him up with his wife.

After ransacking the couple’s apartment, the intruders murdered them and made away with their electronics.

According to the father of the husband, Sandile Memela, Memela’s cousin who lives in a lodge at the compound, heard noises during the commotion but thought the couple was arguing.

“The cousin told me that when he woke up to go into the house, he saw that the electronic items were missing, He then saw the blood and rushed into the main bedroom where he was confronted by the bodies. He first thought they were unconscious, but found they were dead,” Sandile Memela said.

Pastor Adeboye RCCG leader says politicians are liars

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Enoch Adeboye has reportedly stated that he doesn’t trust politicians because they are liars.

The Vice-Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Yemi Osinbajo is a pastor at the RCCG and is also said to be a close associate of Adeboye’s.

Animal Lust Teenager Nabbed For Having Sex With Goat In Enugu

The world is surely coming to an end: how would you describe a situation where a teenage boy is caught while having sex with a goat?

Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, in Ugbo Odogwu, Enugu State, have arrested a 14-year-old boy who decided to experiment with sex by engaging a she goat in the act.

The young boy who must have heard so much about sex could not get a willing girl to try it out with him and therefore thought the best practice partner would be a goat but he was caught in the act.

The young chap who could not be named since he is a minor, according to the NSCDC, was handed over to his parents with the mandate that they bring him to their office whenever the need arise.

The spokesperson for the NSCDC in the state, Mr. Denny Iwuchukwu, confirmed the incident.

He is a minor, so we told the parents to bring him to our office every Monday.

Hilarious Police in Ado-Ekiti arrest 2 rams for attacking woman

Two rams were arrested and detained by police in Ado-Ekiti after they attacked a woman and injured her in the process.

Just like humans, 2 rams have been arrested and detained by policemen in Ado-Ekiti for attacking and injuring a woman popularly called Iya Oyo.

 According to a report by Leadership, 65-year-old Iya Oyo said she was on her way to a commercial bank in Okesa area with her son on Monday to withdraw some money when the rams went wild and gored her, fracturing her right thigh in the process.

The woman said she fell immediately after the attack and became unconscious only to wake up to find herself at the clinic where she regained consciousness. She was rushed by sympathisers and onlookers to a traditional orthopaedic clinic.

“We were walking on the walkway and saw the rams in front of us but not knowing what was on their mind. Immediately they sighted us coming, one of them rushed and hit me several times with its horns. Immediately, I fell but as I was struggling to get up, the second ram joined the first to attack me. Thank God that some people came and saved me from untimely death in the hands of these “mad rams,” the woman told Leadership.

Residents of the area also confirmed the incident and described the rams which are owned by a manager of a filling station in the area as “too notorious and always ready to attack people at sight.” The residents who spoke to Leadership said they have complained several times to the owner of the rams to tame them but to no avail.
