Jonathan visited the state for his re-election campaign on Saturday, January 24, while the terrorists attacked on Sunday.
The
President had left Maiduguri when the attack occurred but some members
of his entourage, including security personnel, journalists and health
workers, remain trapped in the troubled state.
“We
are hiding and there is serious fighting going on between the
insurgents and security personnel. Security men are battling to repel
the insurgents,” one of the stranded aides told Vanguard.
“The
military said that troops have repelled the attack but they will have
to comb the bushes to get rid of the insurgents and they said they might
not finish today. Meaning that we cannot leave today (yesterday),” the source added.
A 24-hour curfew has been imposed on Maiduguri following the attack but the Director of Defence Information, Chris Olukolade has said that it will be lifted today.
